Accreditation

Hoofcare providers of the future will not only be hoof trimmers, but they will be equipped with the knowledge to assist horse owners in understanding the hoof better, and in rehabilitating their horses. As hoof care providers they will also be members of a team of equine health professionals who are responsible for maintaining and/or restoring optimum health and soundness for every equine in their care.

We are currently working on an accreditation scheme that will define the skill level and competencies of those members who achieve accreditation with our association. The implementation of this scheme will provide horse owners, veterinarians and other professionals with access to competent professional hoof care providers, who have a good depth of anatomical knowledge of the equine foot and it's functions.

As part of the accreditation process all prospective members will be required to pass an anatomy and physiology examination, a “hands on” practical examination, and present well documented case studies. There is an expectation that accredited members will continue to upgrade and build upon their skills in order to remain as full members of the association.

Code of Ethics for Association Members

1. To respect the true nature of the healthy hoof and to provide hoofcare that promotes optimum and ongoing soundness.

2. To act at all times in a professional manner.

3. Not to undertake any procedures for which members do not have suitable training.
